Welcome to the 2016-2017 School Year

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year at Factory Shoals Elementary School, home of the Dolphins! At Factory Shoals we serve students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. In addition to core academic instruction, we offer all students the opportunity to participate in Art, Music, Physical Education, and Science Lab each week. We are also the home of two special needs pre-kindergarten classes, one Mild Intellectual Disabilities class, and two Moderate Intellectual Disabilities classes.

Our goal each day is to provide quality and rigorous instruction that is designed to meet the individual needs of all of our students. Our focus each year is to increase the academic achievement of our students in all areas. This year we will particularly focus on Math, Reading, and Writing instruction at all grade levels. We will continue to offer STEM lessons in our Science Lab for all students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. Our school theme this year is Pirates. Students will set sail to "Bookaneer Bay" as they engage in reading across the curriculum.

We are always proud of the accomplishments of our school, staff and students. For the second year in a row, Factory Shoals Elementary was named the elementary level winner of the 2015 Governor’s Red Ribbon Campaign for exemplary promotion of drug free activities during Red Ribbon Week. Mrs. Lisa Broadhead, our school counselor, is the coordinator of Factory Shoals Red Ribbon activities. In addition, Mrs. Carmilla Hilton, 4th grade teacher, was named our 2016-2017 Teacher of the Year.

I'm proud to serve as the new principal at Factory Shoals Elementary this year.  My assistant principal is Ms. Minda Trexler, former assistant principal at CHES. The new school motto is S>W>I>M> "Success WithIn Me". This motto stems from the mindset that despite circumstances, obstacles, or setbacks, failure is not an option. Dolphins keep swimming! Our mission is to provide a quality education for all students in a safe, supportive environment that fosters success for all stakeholders.

S>W>I>M> teams will be created to recognize the accomplishments of students, parents, and staff. Want to know how you can become a member of the FSES S>W>I>M> team? Stop by the school and ask how!
