Principal's Corner

Welcome to the 2017-2018 School Year

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year at Factory Shoals Elementary School, home of the Dolphins! At Factory Shoals we serve students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. In addition to core academic instruction, we offer all students the opportunity to participate in Art, Music, and Physical Education each week. We are also the home of two special needs pre-kindergarten classes, one Mild Intellectual Disabilities class,  2 Moderate Intellectual Disabilities classes, and brand new this year, 1 High Functioning Autism class.

Our goal each day is to provide quality and rigorous instruction that is designed to meet the individual needs of all of our students. We work hard to increase the academic achievement of our students in all areas. Our content area focus is ELA/literacy this year. Teachers will work to engage students in active learning and will decrease the number of worksheets being used during instruction.

I am proud to serve as principal again this year.  My assistant principal is Ms. Minda Trexler.  Last year was the inaugural year for Team Cowins & Trexler. We had a successful year with the implementation of the Dolphin 200 Club and Dolphin Details newsletter, improved school-wide discipline plan, and our esteemed recognition of being named a Title I High Progress School from the Georgia Department of Education.

Our school motto is S>W>I>M> "Success WithIn Me". Dolphins keep swimming! Our mission is to provide a quality education for all students in a safe, supportive environment that fosters success for all stakeholders. This year we will work to improve our customer service at Factory Shoals Elementary by creating a more welcoming environment for all who visit our school.

For additional information concerning registration please contact our registrar, Denine Pope at 770.651.3900 or visit our page of the school system website at www.douglas.k12.ga.us. Warmest Regards,

Tara L. Cowins
